When negotiations get stuck (or worse), the wise seek assistance.
Mediation is the only form of Assisted Dispute Resolution (ADR) where you, the people, decide the outcome. If you, the most affected by the outcome, don't decide the outcome, it's not Mediation.
Facilitation is public mediation.
The other forms of ADR are: litigation where a judge decides the outcome, and arbitration where an arbitrator or panel decides the outcome.
Litigation and arbitration are adversarial, based on power and rights. They function in bureaucracies of nomenclature and codification, designed to prey on your confusion.
Mediation is a safe harbor from the storm of harmful, fruitless adversity.
Rapid: Because what can be accomplished can be accomplished faster if the mediator is skilled enough. Great mediators bring a clarity of thought, organization & insight to the negotiation process.
Teleological: Defined by purpose (serving your goals & priorities), not by process.
Dialectic: Harnessing the creative power of opposing forces. Functions to combine multiple truth into a coherent synthesis, which co-maximizes solutions.
Agreement Creation: If the parties don't decide, it's not mediation. Mediation is future-focused. While mediation can be therapeutic, it is not therapy (which is more focused on the past). Mediation should get you to a new starting point. From your new starting point, you will find the "conflict system" more acceptable & manageable, or resolved.
Mediation is: voluntary assisted negotiation.
Mediation is freedom.
Mediation is interpersonal empowerment skills-building.
Mediation is the world's best hope, because we currently remain a conflict-ignorant species.
Healthy conflict is natural part of life.
Conflict can be frozen, ripened, contoured, mitigated, managed, or resolved.
A great mediator does more than add it all up & whack it in half.
A great mediator is a guide, a coach, an educator, and a negotiator of acumen.
1. To get creative, get curious.
2. Words matter. Don't get pinned by a false dichotomy (a restricted choice).
3. Remember OPS: Organize + Prioritize +Strategize.
Mediation is my gift and my gift is mediation. Welcome
